Cindy Nyilas

Cindy is MonnoM’s designer. She drafts, sizes and sews each and every MonnoM garment. She is a hard and diligent worker in the studio. When the weekends arrives, she loves spending time at the shows. She is the one who has beautiful visions of rearranging all heavy things in the booth (much to the chagrin of J the booth technician!). She is always available for consultations and loves working with clients to find and create the most flattering lines and the best fit for their signature style.

Making clothes has been a passion of Cindy’s for her entire life. She graduated from Fanshawe College Fashion Design program in 1989 and has maintained a full time freelance design studio since 1990. She is a fashion designer who has specialized in stretchy wearables for most of her career. She has been the technical designer for many private labels, having experience in club wear, street wear, dance wear, fitness wear, swimwear and special needs gear. She also is a patented inventor who has a utility patent on a breast support garment for women recovering from breast cancer.

Cindy was raised in fabulous Northern Ontario and later studied Fashion Design at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. In 2003, Cindy relocated the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. With the help of very supportive friends and family, she packed up her Ford Tempo with her industrial sewing machines (yes it was quite a sight!) and drove cross country. She loves the Okanagan! The beautiful environment and people provide her with a constant source of creative energy.

J is a gem of a human who embodies so many talents. He is an artist who creates sacred geometry mandalas, a master at building inukshuks, plays the bass, guitar, didgeridoo, percussion, is a sepak takraw gold metal winning athlete and performs with local West African drumming troupe the Rippers.

J is the master of so many behind the scenes facets of the MonnoM line. In the studio, he spends most of his time cutting and finishing. His attention to detail and good work ethic combined with his artistic talents are a big reason why the MonnoM line continues to thrive.

He is now doing all the hand-dying and getting pretty consistent with the new techniques. Although soft spoken, it surprises many when they realize just how knowledgeable he is in every aspect of the MonnoM line.
